As he got into highschool his passion for Tennis over the other spots took over. This led to volunteering at youth tennis camps over the summer, which sparked his love of coaching/teaching. In 2006 he got professional tennis coaching credentials which would take him through a 16+ year career of teaching children to adults.
He found CrossFit back in 2012 when he wanted to switch up his training for playing tennis tournaments and leagues. He was all in once the big tennis tournaments were completed. From there the same love he had for tennis had now been switched over to crossfit. The competitive side took over and he competed in individual, Partner and team events. Got his CrossfFit L-1 in 2014 but In 2015 he moved away but was able to do garage gym workouts and keep up with some Olympic lifting. At the end of 2019 he came back as a coach and in October 2021 took over ownership of CrossFit SW Beaverton, now know as SWB Fitness.
I’ve been an athlete throughout my whole life. As a kid, I participated in a lot of sports: soccer, basketball, swimming and softball. As I got older, I really focused on softball as my primary sport and starting pitching. I lifted weights for team workouts and did a lot of running to build endurance to play multiple games per day on the weekends. I even played a year of Division ll softball in Colorado!
I met Matt in 2015 and tried my first CrossFit class at SWB not long after. I loved it! I’d never felt stronger or more fit. I especially like barbell work and lifting, it makes me feel so strong to throw around weights. I love CrossFit for how it makes me feel and the wonderful community at SWB!
Prior to finding CrossFit, Dave did karate, rowed in college, ran marathons, and always enjoyed weightlifting.
“After turning 40 and PR-ing my half marathon, I was tired of running and wanted to try something different for my fitness. The CrossFit Games just so happened to be on TV and looked like a lot of fun, albeit really, really intense. I liked how the workouts were so varied. And it wasn't just a barbell and lifting weights; so many other disciplines were incorporated into the programming. I was hooked.
I have always enjoyed the community aspect of CrossFit, especially at SWB.
